Guyana is one of the world's leading producers of bauxite and has delivered approximately 1.45 million tons of bauxite to the global market in 2017. In 2017, bauxite shipments in the country increased by 36% year-on-year. The main export products of Guyana are sugar, gold, bauxite, aluminum, rice, shrimp, and wood. In 2017, Ukraine and the United States were bauxite importers in Guyana. Guyana exported approximately 947,830 tons and 200,467 tons of bauxite to Ukraine and the United States, respectively. Other major importers include Canada, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Italy.Guyana estimates that bauxite exports in the first half of 2018 were 672,208 tons, up from 662,461 tons in the same period last year. The specific data remains to be counted. But for the second half of the export volume, Guyana's forecast is slightly pessimistic. Guyana expects production in the second half of 2018 to drop to 727,117 tons from 796,758 tons in the same period last year, and exports will decline. In April, due to the US sanctions against Russian aluminum, the German-based bauxite shipping company Oldendorff Carriers decided to close its transportation business to Guyana. Oldendorff said it will fully comply with US sanctions resolutions, so even if it breaks business contacts with Guyana. It is estimated that the export revenue of bauxite in Guyana in the first half of 2018 will reach 280 million US dollars, compared with 69 million US dollars in the same period last year. Revenue for the second half of the year is expected to be $478 million, up from $73 million in the same period last year.
